In 1079 AD, William the Conqueror declared the 38,000 hectares of the New Forest as
his own royal hunting ground. More than 900 years on it is still preserved as a National Park with 3744 wild ponies roaming freely, along with cattle, pigs and
donkeys. This medieval woodland provides a magical playground for guests at Chewton Glen.

The average size of the smallest bedrooms is 40m2 (a couple are smaller – the majority though are much bigger). All are individually designed and equipped to a world-class standard. The antique, the classic and the contemporary combine to create a feeling of timeless elegance.

After a long day of activities there is nothing better than a cocktail, the hotels signature being the Mint Julep. The Mint Julep originated in the southern states of America. It was Captain Marryat, the famous novelist and former Chewton Glen
resident, who first introduced the cocktail to the British Isles. Over 150 years later, you can still enjoy his discovery at the Tinkers Bar.

Where possible, the hotel sources its produce locally, some of which is from our own
kitchen garden and orchard. From an informal al fresco lunch to a gastronomic banquet, experience the finest ingredients delivered with passion and pride. There are also great cooking lessons to join for both adults and kids.
