Iconic Experiences

To complement these stunning properties, sign up for these three iconic experiences which are a call to a soulful and memorable Grecian escape…

Acropolis & the Acropolis Museum
When you stand at the foot of the Acropolis of Athens and gaze at the architectural splendour of the Parthenon, the spirit of Ancient Greece unfolds before your eyes, emitting a vibrancy for over 2,500 years. As the undisputed center of the city for millennia, these great historical monuments atop the hill can be seen from every corner of Athens and takes a skilled guide to reveal the secrets within. Your visit takes place early in the morning before the crowds descend, and using augmented reality on an iPad, travel back in time as you discover the monuments in their original glory and the intricate engineering behind them.

Rare truffle hunting in Motsovo
In this corner of Greece, those who know Katerina Nola call her the female “Indiana Jones,” whose incredibly trained dogs track down precious truffles with vim and vigour. Alongside their skillful senses, you’ll make the most of the stunning countryside views while watching the dogs come and go, hopefully with truffles in their snouts! There is much to be learned, and the strolling continues until they have collected enough truffles for a scrumptious cookout lunch at a wooden riverside shelter.

Olive Oil Tasting and Lunch at a Local Village
Not far from Costa Navarino, you can enjoy an exceptional culinary experience at a traditional Greek village in the Peloponnese. Hidden past stone slab streets, idyllic Greek houses and olive, chestnut and walnut trees resides an olive oil connoisseur ready to share his well-kept secrets as he guides you through the steps of olive oil tasting. By the end of the day, you’ll savour the aromas of fresh olives and appreciate the smooth, bitter taste and spicy sensation of a premium olive oil. To top it off, you’ll make and bake your own bread in a wood-fired oven to complement the traditional lunch.

Follow the siren song of your heart and take to the seas! We know Greece well, and are eager to show you how to travel in pure luxury as you make your way across the isles this Autumn. Don’t hesitate any longer and you’ll be grateful you made the leap…

Travel As A Force For Good

We are a proud member of The Conscious Travel Foundation which is a global community, uniting members of the travel industry to reshape the impact of tourism on the world. We believe in the power of education and collaboration to fuel a shift in industry practice, igniting change and safeguarding the planet for future generations.

Whilst it can be seen the devastating effects of the climate change on our world, we are hopeful that going forward travel can still provide a positive impact on communities around the planet.

There are many inspiring stories from properties looking to make the changes necessary in order to preserve what we have. The resilience of communities ad habitats across the world is a sign that we can do better, and we must all learn how we can do things ourselves in order to best protect our future generations.

Below are some of the inspiring stories from some properties from across the world.

Tiger Mountain - Pokhara Lodge

Nepal

Tiger Mountain, since its start has been at the forefront of responsible tourism. This covers all our stakeholders: our guests, employees, local communities, and government. We strive to minimise our impacts be they environmental, social, or corporate and to support our local communities’ own development initiatives. This is through our Community Support Partnership Programme that supports Community Forest User Groups, local schools, health posts, local national and international charities, environmental research and monitoring, advocacy, and media.

As we have evolved through the thought processes of eco-tourism and wider sustainable tourism, we now seek to develop concepts appropriate to the middle hills of Nepal for truly Regenerative Tourism – a leap beyond somewhat passive sustainability to reverse damaging trends to regenerate the environment and communities so that all can thrive – in so doing we provide a deeper level of transformational journey for our guests through a rich sense of place and an immersive experience of life in the middle hills of Nepal. Through authentic experiences, engagement with the local community, integrating with the forest and mountain landscape, understanding the rhythms of life, we create a fuller engagement than just the change from work to holiday. This, in turn, must co-evolve with a more holistic approach to local communities and their aspirations for development. Tiger Mountain aims to be the bridge between the guests’ transformation and the community’s aspirations.

The Sujan Life

India

Our Vision: To preserve and protect parts of the Indian wilderness as well as our diverse cultural heritage for future generations.

A Family dedicated to Conservation

Our family has a legacy of working with wildlife through filming, monitoring, researching and creating awareness about tigers in Ranthambhore for generations. In 1974, when Tejbir and Malvika followed a narrow, winding road it led them to the base of the ancient fort of Ranthambhore. In 1988, they co-established The Ranthambhore Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), working closely with the development of villages around the park boundaries. As a child, Jaisal learnt the lay of the land by walking through every inch of the park; forbidden under today’s regulations. He was taught animal tracking and bush craft skills as a toddler under the tutelage of his father Tejbir, the late Fateh Singh Rathore and his uncle Valmik Thapar – regarded as India’s leading wildlife experts and conservationists.

The Safari Series

Kenya

One of our post-covid promises includes the promise to provide an experience that is “not once in a lifetime, but for your lifetime”

BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

In so much marketing, you see around the promotion of a safari or safari camp you are likely to read the words ‘a trip of a lifetime!’. This is, honestly, because most safari experiences are very expensive and most people who visit Kenya can only afford to come on a trip that happens once in their lives. But this doesn’t need to be the case – many travelers or families go to the same place time and time again, especially if it was a place they felt a real affinity for.

Sustainability is a real ‘buzzword’, but what does really mean? Can travel, which can be incredibly bad for the environment if done without thought, really help sustain a landscape for the future? At The Safari Series, we think so. In fact, it is built into the core of what we do.

The Datai Langkawi

Malaysia

Nature sits at the very core of The Datai Langkawi’s DNA – it is an integral part of who we are and what makes us unique. The wonderful natural setting and the environmental features – the sea, mangroves and ancient virgin rainforest – provide the very foundations for our offering of nature-related experiences combined with holistic and well-being programmes.

Just as nature has gifted us our environment and its fascinating inhabitants, we have a responsibility to conserve and strengthen nature’s increasingly fragile resources and to reduce the negative impact of our footprint on the environment. This responsibility – which has evolved into The Datai Pledge – has culminated into a robust programme of initiatives with the single-minded objective of creating a sustainable environment for the future. The Datai Pledge programme not only benefits the living creatures who share this spectacular island with us but also enriches the lives of our guests, team members and the local community through meaningful participation.

The Datai Pledge programme comprises a series of initiatives relating to our business operations, the land, sea, and youth. These four elements correspond to the four pillars of our programme: Pure for the Future; Wildlife for the Future; Fish for the Future; and Youth for the Future, respectively.

Blue Apple Beach

Colombia

Bocachica is an under-served village on an undeveloped island. The roads are not paved and there is still no running water. Access to education is limited, unemployment is high, and those lucky enough to find work must often support entire families on the Colombian minimum wage of less than $10 a day.

But like all people, all over, Bocachiqueros are proud, charming, hard working and ambitious for themselves, their families and their community.

As one of the only sources of formal employment in the area, Blue Apple’s goal as a business is to offer guests the best experience possible, while also creating opportunities for our neighbours and being a respectful and contributive member of the community.

We employ local people where we can, from Bocachica and from other villages on Tierra Bomba and the islands around Cartagena.

Most of the tours and activities we offer are owned and run by local people. We are also proud to support the Green Apple Foundation, which provides jobs through recycling.

Sol y Luna

Peru

Sol y Luna authentically reflects the rich Andean culture and allows us to share the beauty of the Sacred Valley with our guests while generating the income to support the Sol y Luna Intercultural School.

My name is Marie Hélene Miribel, but everybody calls me simply Petit. Following my heart, I left a successful corporate life for the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to live my dream of improving the future for some of the world’s poorest children. In my husband Franz, I met the perfect match. I have tons of ideas for how to educate these children, and Franz possesses the gifts to build and realize these audacious dreams.

In 1999, we started an education project for the local children, many of whom walked for hours each day to get to a school in poor condition or did not go at all. Working within the existing social fabric proved invaluable to understanding the realities of schools and families around the Sacred Valley. To support our education initiatives in the most economically sustainable way given Sacred Valley’s potential for tourism, in 2000 we decided to build a hotel.

Wild Bush Luxury

Australia

Australia’s landscapes are some of the oldest on Earth and having been isolated for 45 million years, we are one of the most biologically unique and diverse countries on Earth, with more than 80% of flora and fauna species endemic to our environments.

Two hundred years of European settlement has emphasised the fragility of our unique country with land clearance, the introduction of feral animals and invasive weeds substantially impacting on the country’s biodiversity. Twenty two Australian mammal species have become extinct in the last 200 years (the highest rate of any country) and 20% of our remaining mammal species are also threatened with extinction. Climate change will only exacerbate this conservation challenge.

The Wild Bush Luxury portfolio offers guests a chance to see some of Australia’s most incredible and pristine environments, almost completely untouched by human settlement – the Top End and Flinders Ranges.

Favourite Game Reserves in South Africa

South Africa is Africa’s most popular and best-developed travel destination is famed for its sun-soaked beaches and vast game reserves, but it also provides exceptional opportunities to indulge in pursuits as varied as wine-tasting, hiking and museum-hopping.

South Africa is a land of extraordinary natural wealth and variety. Indeed, one recent ecological survey ranked it as the third-most important country in the world in terms of biodiversity. The Big Five – lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino – roam freely through South Africa’s premier safari destination, the vast Kruger National Park, along with a host of other iconic large mammals.

Ulusaba Private Game Reserve

As do all of Sir Richard Branson’s retreats, Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, with 20 rooms and suites, prides itself on offering a completely personal and exclusive experience. Here on the edge of the vast Kruger National Park, you’ll track the “big five” in open vehicles while knowledgeable guides educate you about the animals and their habitats. And although you’re deep in the African bush, you’ll experience the five-star luxury you would expect at a fine boutique hotel – from world-class spa treatments in the Aroma Boma Spa to remarkable cuisine and fine wines shared with other fortunate guests.

Set along the banks of the Sabie River and attracting abundant “big five” wildlife from Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Kruger National Park, Lion Sands has four luxurious lodges: River Lodge, Ivory Lodge, Tinga Lodge, and Narina Lodge. To get above the bush, reserve one of the three Treehouse experiences. Enjoy daily game drives, nature walks, a hippo tour, and a bush dinner with stargazing. Visit the local Huntington village to meet the children and teachers of Henna and Jabez preschools, via Lion Sands’ community outreach program.

These tucked-away accommodations put nature at the reserve’s doorstep, with amenities like secluded plunge pools, indoor and outdoor dining areas, fireplaces, and expansive decks overlooking the Bushman’s River. Plus, every aspect of a stay is customized to each groups’ needs from gourmet meals and relaxing spa treatments to immersive game drives and guided photography safaris.

Singita Sabi Sand

Singita’s long-term commitment to the preservation of Africa’s wilderness for future generations shines through in conservation and community work.

Traditional huts in the style of the Ethnographic Museum of Rwanda in Butare, made out of local materials following local traditions and with inhabited huts already found in the northern part of Nkombo island, with views over the various islands and both Rwandan and Congolese territory.

The area where the huts are positioned is located on the northern tip of Nkombo Island on Lake Kivu, and is the part, which is furthest away from the mainland, it has the lowest population density and is inhabited by a Muslim minority, who, despite their poverty, are known for their particularly elegant styles of female dress.

As on the rest of the island, life in our huts will also be one of self-subsistence through the farming of our land and the livestock rearing that characterise the local household economy. Crops and animals are those traditionally found in equatorial villages with a few local peculiarities distinct to the island.

Aman New York - USA

May 2022

Opening soon, Aman unveils a new urban sanctuary with the rebirth of an architectural icon at the heart of Manhattan. Since 1921, the Crown Building has presided over the midpoint of Manhattan; the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, overlooking Central Park. Rising 26 storeys from the boutique-lined street, the building’s windows and terraces look out over the vast sweep of parkland and survey the world’s most recognisable skyline.

The Crown Building – formerly the first home of Museum of Modern Art – has undergone a monumental transformation, which has seen it fully restored to its original splendour and imbued with the spirit of Aman. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, the hotel celebrates Aman’s philosophy of creating sanctuaries beyond commonplace notions of luxury, whilst paying homage to the building’s striking architecture and significant history.

Aman New York will consist of 83 hotel rooms, as well as restaurants, a Garden Terrace & Bar with 7000 square feet of outdoor dining space, private members club, three-floor Aman Spa, Jazz Club and Wine Room.

andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti - Tanzania

Due to its far-flung location, there are very few lodges in this pristine section of the park, which means that guests can expect the ultimate in exclusivity. Using the natural bow shape of the river, and paying homage to the circular forms of a traditional Masai manyatta, the lodge unfolds to reveal an understated sense of luxury.

Touching the earth lightly and seemingly floating across the landscape, 10 nostalgically elegant, and very spacious, guest suites offer natural light, an enormous bed, bath, an indoor shower (with a spectacular view), and a sparkling private plunge pool. A new family suite has been incorporated featuring a small additional bedroom attached.

Twice-daily game drives from the lodge often encounter large lion prides and clans of hyena, big herds of resident plains game as well as the special black-and-white colobus monkeys, found nowhere else in the Serengeti. Rarely seeing other vehicles makes for an exceptional game viewing experience.
