As we have evolved through the thought processes of eco-tourism and wider sustainable tourism, we now seek to develop concepts appropriate to the middle hills of Nepal for truly Regenerative Tourism – a leap beyond somewhat passive sustainability to reverse damaging trends to regenerate the environment and communities so that all can thrive – in so doing we provide a deeper level of transformational journey for our guests through a rich sense of place and an immersive experience of life in the middle hills of Nepal. Through authentic experiences, engagement with the local community, integrating with the forest and mountain landscape, understanding the rhythms of life, we create a fuller engagement than just the change from work to holiday. This, in turn, must co-evolve with a more holistic approach to local communities and their aspirations for development. Tiger Mountain aims to be the bridge between the guests’ transformation and the community’s aspirations.

The Sujan Life

India

Our Vision: To preserve and protect parts of the Indian wilderness as well as our diverse cultural heritage for future generations.

A Family dedicated to Conservation

Our family has a legacy of working with wildlife through filming, monitoring, researching and creating awareness about tigers in Ranthambhore for generations. In 1974, when Tejbir and Malvika followed a narrow, winding road it led them to the base of the ancient fort of Ranthambhore. In 1988, they co-established The Ranthambhore Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), working closely with the development of villages around the park boundaries. As a child, Jaisal learnt the lay of the land by walking through every inch of the park; forbidden under today’s regulations. He was taught animal tracking and bush craft skills as a toddler under the tutelage of his father Tejbir, the late Fateh Singh Rathore and his uncle Valmik Thapar – regarded as India’s leading wildlife experts and conservationists.

The Safari Series

Kenya

One of our post-covid promises includes the promise to provide an experience that is “not once in a lifetime, but for your lifetime”

BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

In so much marketing, you see around the promotion of a safari or safari camp you are likely to read the words ‘a trip of a lifetime!’. This is, honestly, because most safari experiences are very expensive and most people who visit Kenya can only afford to come on a trip that happens once in their lives. But this doesn’t need to be the case – many travelers or families go to the same place time and time again, especially if it was a place they felt a real affinity for.

Sustainability is a real ‘buzzword’, but what does really mean? Can travel, which can be incredibly bad for the environment if done without thought, really help sustain a landscape for the future? At The Safari Series, we think so. In fact, it is built into the core of what we do.

The Datai Langkawi

Malaysia

Nature sits at the very core of The Datai Langkawi’s DNA – it is an integral part of who we are and what makes us unique. The wonderful natural setting and the environmental features – the sea, mangroves and ancient virgin rainforest – provide the very foundations for our offering of nature-related experiences combined with holistic and well-being programmes.

Just as nature has gifted us our environment and its fascinating inhabitants, we have a responsibility to conserve and strengthen nature’s increasingly fragile resources and to reduce the negative impact of our footprint on the environment. This responsibility – which has evolved into The Datai Pledge – has culminated into a robust programme of initiatives with the single-minded objective of creating a sustainable environment for the future. The Datai Pledge programme not only benefits the living creatures who share this spectacular island with us but also enriches the lives of our guests, team members and the local community through meaningful participation.

The Datai Pledge programme comprises a series of initiatives relating to our business operations, the land, sea, and youth. These four elements correspond to the four pillars of our programme: Pure for the Future; Wildlife for the Future; Fish for the Future; and Youth for the Future, respectively.

Blue Apple Beach

Colombia

Bocachica is an under-served village on an undeveloped island. The roads are not paved and there is still no running water. Access to education is limited, unemployment is high, and those lucky enough to find work must often support entire families on the Colombian minimum wage of less than $10 a day.

But like all people, all over, Bocachiqueros are proud, charming, hard working and ambitious for themselves, their families and their community.

As one of the only sources of formal employment in the area, Blue Apple’s goal as a business is to offer guests the best experience possible, while also creating opportunities for our neighbours and being a respectful and contributive member of the community.

We employ local people where we can, from Bocachica and from other villages on Tierra Bomba and the islands around Cartagena.

Most of the tours and activities we offer are owned and run by local people. We are also proud to support the Green Apple Foundation, which provides jobs through recycling.

Sol y Luna

Peru

Sol y Luna authentically reflects the rich Andean culture and allows us to share the beauty of the Sacred Valley with our guests while generating the income to support the Sol y Luna Intercultural School.

My name is Marie Hélene Miribel, but everybody calls me simply Petit. Following my heart, I left a successful corporate life for the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to live my dream of improving the future for some of the world’s poorest children. In my husband Franz, I met the perfect match. I have tons of ideas for how to educate these children, and Franz possesses the gifts to build and realize these audacious dreams.

In 1999, we started an education project for the local children, many of whom walked for hours each day to get to a school in poor condition or did not go at all. Working within the existing social fabric proved invaluable to understanding the realities of schools and families around the Sacred Valley. To support our education initiatives in the most economically sustainable way given Sacred Valley’s potential for tourism, in 2000 we decided to build a hotel.

Wild Bush Luxury

Australia

Australia’s landscapes are some of the oldest on Earth and having been isolated for 45 million years, we are one of the most biologically unique and diverse countries on Earth, with more than 80% of flora and fauna species endemic to our environments.

Two hundred years of European settlement has emphasised the fragility of our unique country with land clearance, the introduction of feral animals and invasive weeds substantially impacting on the country’s biodiversity. Twenty two Australian mammal species have become extinct in the last 200 years (the highest rate of any country) and 20% of our remaining mammal species are also threatened with extinction. Climate change will only exacerbate this conservation challenge.

The Wild Bush Luxury portfolio offers guests a chance to see some of Australia’s most incredible and pristine environments, almost completely untouched by human settlement – the Top End and Flinders Ranges.
